One of the three bears
I just love this picture.
The lady was a well known American, the first American lady to setup an Art Museum.
"The Whitney Museum Of American Art"The Museum was founded in 1931 with a core group of 700 art objects, many of them from the personal collection of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney herself.
She was an accomplished sculptress.

Much as I hate to be ornery....
but that woman's legacy is a disaster -- both as a sculptor and as the founder of an art museum --
so she pretty much exemplifies what befell American visual culture in the last century.
(and, curiously, I think that photo you've shown tells it all)
The picture as you say says it all, clean manicured fingernails etc. The camera doesn’t lie but it can be made to bend light a lot!
Like most of us there is “the good” and quite a lot of “the mediocre”, but she didn't have to earn her living from it so I will excuse her a little. There was no real incentive. This was at a time of the “depression” too.
I was very disappointed with the Museum's website so there I just might agree; but then we can't blame her for that. I would be interested to see what she as a sculptor had collected. Of course The Whitney is revealing little online of their collection, so I did not bother to add a link.
this is a great picture. I bet she was a lot of fun.
